BBA Wrap: New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012

Plaids, tunics-over-pants, Indian silk - it's definitely looking like an Indian Spring/Summer in 2013! While the Indian/South Asian designers went for more western contemporary styles, the others went east. DVF and Vera Wang were both clearly inspired by India but it was perhaps Marchesa's collection that was the most obvious. Marchesa's was a rich Indian collection with the kind of glamour we're used to.

Our South Asian designers dominated the stage - Prabal Gurung, Bibhu, Naeem Khan, Rachel Roy, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Sachin & Babi - packing a punch into NYFW. While Prabal continues on his winning path of uncut yet stunningly fresh style, Naeem Khan opted for something more subdue. Falguni & Shane Peacock reverted back to their winning formula (thank god) of futuristic fashion. Jessie J will be proud (lol). New York Fashion Week is becoming a winning hub for South Asian designers.

The South Asian elements weren't lost on the street looks for the seasons either. Jeremy Scott was a surprising favorite, along with Marc by Marc Jacobs, both clearly taking cue from MIA 'Bad Girls' video. And The Row's designs show us the dhoti inspiration is not going anywhere.

  2. I'd say the head shawls by Marc for Marc Jacobs are great accessory piece especillay for those windy days where your hair ends up flying every where and the best part, it'll keep the ears warm too. If i had to pick a favorite, argh, very hard, but i'm LOVING the very first pic the black and white (maybe silver) coat! I'd wear that as a dress!! As for all the color blocking, i was doing that already! lol, LOVE it!! As for the rest of the formal wear, i heart it too, but I'll have a hard time rocking it or buying it for that matter, but it looks amazing and I may just experiment with a few saris of my own. I love the blog, Ash!! It's fantastic how you keep fashion which is everywhere in terms of coming from different regions but you keep it connected to your roots. Very COOL.
